Advance Dog Training

I’m am considering getting a service dog. I need a small dog that can easily travel with me by car and on airplanes. Simple tasks, like picking up and retrieving small objects, and letting me know that there is someone waiting at my front door, and distracting me, when I have a panic attack – are all that would be required. ALSO – I will have to train the dog on my own via books and videos. Does anyone have a breed suggestion for me? How about training books and videos? Service organizations that might possibly be of help to me (Louisiana/ Mississippi/Alabama area)? I prefer a softer coated breed, but would be willing to look into wiry coats too. Thanks in advance for any advice.
